# Reddit Marketing Agency vs AI Agent vs Doing It Yourself

> Doing it yourself costs only your time and keeps every reply in your own voice. The agencies with published prices we checked charge $650 to $2,000 a month, and some post from their own accounts. An AI agent does the reading and drafting in software. For each option, ask whose account posts, who approves each reply, and who carries a removal.

Agent Agency makes one of the options on this page. Every fact about another product links to its source, with the date we checked it.

## The three options in one line each

- **Do it yourself.** You find the threads, write the replies and post them from your own account. A monitoring tool can do the finding for a monthly fee, or for free with Reddit Pro.
- **Hire an agency.** People at the agency read and write. Depending on the agency, they post from your account, from accounts they run, or hand you the text to post.
- **Use an AI agent.** Software reads the communities and drafts the replies. Depending on the tool, it posts from accounts you connect, from accounts the vendor runs, or only after you approve.

We make one of these, an AI agent, so read this page as a vendor's view. Each vendor is linked in the first table, and every price comes from its own pages, checked on 22 October 2026. Agencies and tools are grouped by how they work, not ranked.

## Who writes, who posts, and from whose account

Price is the first thing people compare, but the account question matters more. The account that posts collects the history, the standing in each community and the risk when something is removed. These are the models we found on vendors' own pages.

**Who does the work in each model (vendor pages checked 22 October 2026)**

| Model | Who reads and writes | Who posts | Whose account | Example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Do it yourself | You | You | Yours | You, with [Reddit Pro](https://www.business.reddit.com/pro), [Syften](https://syften.com/) or [RedShip](https://redship.io/) for finding threads |
| Agency writes, you post | Agency staff | You | Yours (a branded account) | [OutreachBloom](https://outreachbloom.com) delivers daily contributions for you to post |
| Agency manages your accounts | Agency staff | Agency staff | Yours | [Online Optimism](https://onlineoptimism.com/pricing/) bills Reddit-only work by the hours it spends managing your Reddit accounts |
| Agency posts from its accounts | Agency staff | Agency staff | The agency's | [SaasyLinks](https://www.saasylinks.com/reddit-marketing-agency/) places posts and comments from established accounts it brings, so you skip building your own |
| Tool with vendor-run accounts | Software, or you | The vendor, per item | The vendor's | [ReplyAgent](https://replyagent.ai/) offers posting from accounts it runs, or you post yourself |
| AI agent on your accounts | Software | The agent, or you after approval | Yours | Agent Agency (ours) |

## Published prices we could check

Many agencies do not publish prices, so this list is short. Prices change; open the linked page before you decide.

**Published prices, checked 22 October 2026**

| Vendor | Model | Published price | What the page says it covers |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| SaasyLinks | Agency posts from its accounts | $650, $1,300 or $2,000 a month | 3 posts and 10 comments, 7 and 20, or 10 and 30 a month; month-to-month; removed placements replaced within 6 months |
| OutreachBloom | Agency writes, you post | $1,900 a month (Reddit marketing plan) | 50 community engagements a month, delivered ready to post, plus subreddit research and a monthly report |
| Online Optimism | Agency manages your accounts | No fixed Reddit price; billed by hours | Its social media and SEO campaigns start at $2,000 a month |
| ReplyAgent | Tool with vendor-run accounts | $79 a month or $699 a year for AI features; posting priced per item | The posting section lists $4 a comment and $8 a post; the billing answer on the same page lists $5 and $10 |
| Syften | Monitoring only | $29.95, $49.95 or $119.95 a month | Keyword alerts across Reddit and other communities; X and YouTube monitoring are paid add-ons on the two higher plans |
| RedShip | Finds threads, you post | $29 or $49 a month | Daily matched threads and drafts; you post each reply yourself, in your own words |
| Reddit Pro | Official, do it yourself | Free | Keyword tracking, a business profile and post performance |
| Agent Agency | AI agent on your accounts | Not published yet | A plan sets how many accounts run, and coins pay for the work: a post, a comment, a discovery run |

## The cost of doing it yourself is hours

We have no reliable data on how many hours a week Reddit takes, so here is a formula instead of a number: **hours a week × what an hour of your time is worth × 4**. Compare the result with an agency fee or a tool plan.

Most of the hours go to reading, not writing. For every thread worth answering there are many that are off-topic, already answered, or in a community that does not allow what you would say. Then come the follow-up replies a day or two later.

**Who does each part of the work**

| Part of the work | Doing it yourself | Agency | AI agent |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Finding communities | You search and keep a list | Agency research | The agent looks for where your buyers ask |
| Reading each community's rules | You read them once and try to remember | Agency staff | The agent reads them before it writes |
| Finding threads | When you have time, or a monitoring tool | Agency staff | The agent reads the communities |
| Writing the answer | You write every word | Agency staff, from a brief | Drafted from a product summary you approve |
| Deciding to mention the product | You | Agreed in the plan | You, if every reply waits for approval |
| Follow-up replies | When you remember to check | Depends on the plan | The agent can come back to the thread |

## Accounts and Reddit's rules apply to every option

Reddit's [User Agreement](https://redditinc.com/policies/user-agreement) says you may not license, sell or transfer your account without Reddit's prior written approval. When an agency or a tool posts from accounts it owns, or someone else operates yours, ask how that fits this clause.

The [Reddit Rules](https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) ask you to participate authentically, not to spam, and not to intentionally mislead others or impersonate someone. Reddit's help page on [spam](https://web.archive.org/web/20260830042641/https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043504051-Spam) lists, among its examples, programming a bot that keeps promoting products within one community or across many.

For software there is one more page. Reddit's [Responsible Builder Policy](https://web.archive.org/web/20260617125211/https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/42728983564564-Responsible-Builder-Policy) covers apps that use Reddit data and names bots and AI agents. It says apps must register and create a developer profile to get an App profile label, that app accounts should not be mixed-use, that apps must not manipulate Reddit features such as karma, and that automated spam includes posting identical or near-identical content across subreddits. Whether a given tool falls under it depends on how the tool works, so ask every vendor, us included. Our post on [whether AI agents can post on Reddit](https://agentagency.si/blog/ai-agents-on-reddit-rules) goes through the rest.

## Disclosure does not change with the option

Whether you, an agency or an agent mentions your product, readers should know about the connection. In the US, the FTC's [answers on the Endorsement Guides](https://web.archive.org/web/20261018215314/https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/ftcs-endorsement-guides-what-people-are-asking) say a line on a profile page is not enough, because people who read the post may never see it. The disclosure belongs in the post itself.

With any of the three options, the business that runs the campaign decides how replies disclose, and the platform's rules and the law decide what is required. Ready-made wording is in [Reddit disclosure templates](https://agentagency.si/guides/reddit-disclosure-templates).

## When a post is removed, who carries it

- **Your own account.** You carry it. The removal stays on that account's history in that community.
- **SaasyLinks** says it replaces any placement removed within 6 months at no extra cost.
- **ReplyAgent**'s refund policy describes one check 24 hours after a comment and 48 hours after a post, with a 70% refund if moderators removed the item by that check. Content removed later is outside that window. Other lines on the same page mention a check after 1 hour, so ask which one applies.
- **Agent Agency.** If a platform restricts an account, the agent stops working on it, and we don't swap in a new one.

## Which option fits

**A rough guide by situation**

| Your situation | Usually fits | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| One or two communities, an hour a day free | Do it yourself | Nobody knows the product better, and the cost is time only. Start with [finding the subreddits where buyers ask](https://agentagency.si/guides/find-subreddits-where-buyers-ask) |
| Still finding product fit | Do it yourself | Reading every reply teaches you how buyers describe the problem |
| Budget, no time, want people writing | An agency | Staff write. Get the price, the volume and whose account posts in writing |
| Buyers spread over many communities | An AI agent | Reading many communities every day is the part software does well |
| Want to approve, not write | An AI agent with approval | You keep the final say without doing the reading |

### When an AI agent fits

An agent fits when the reading is the bottleneck. Ours learns your product from a link you give it, finds where your buyers ask, keeps to daily limits and quiet hours, and reads each community's rules. Product mentions come only when they answer the question, under a daily cap. In Approve mode every post, comment and DM waits for your OK. On Autopilot the agents act on their own, inside the rules and limits you set. Reddit and X are live. [How it works](https://agentagency.si/how-it-works) has the details.

## A mixed approach

Many teams combine options. The founder answers the threads that need personal experience, and a tool or an agent covers the rest of the reading and drafts replies for approval. That keeps your own voice where it matters most and gets routine questions answered while the thread is still open.

> **Illustrative example:** Illustrative example: a two-person SaaS team answers the r/selfhosted threads about its niche itself and lets an agent draft replies to broader questions on X, approving each one in the morning.

## Questions to ask any vendor before you pay

1. Whose account posts, and who owns it afterwards?
2. Does anyone approve each reply before it goes out, and can that be me?
3. How does a reply disclose that it comes from my company?
4. What happens when a post is removed or an account is restricted?
5. Is the price per month, per hour or per item, and is it written down?
6. How does the work fit the Reddit User Agreement and, for software, the Responsible Builder Policy?

## How we checked, and our stake

We opened each vendor's own page on 22 October 2026 and took the price and the posting model from what the page says. Where a page contradicts itself, as with ReplyAgent's per-item prices, we show both figures. Search snippets and prices from third-party lists are left out. We make Agent Agency, one of the options compared here, and the vendors listed did not review this page.

## Questions

### Is a Reddit marketing agency cheaper than an AI tool?

Of the published prices we checked on 22 October 2026, agency plans ran from $650 to $2,000 a month, while monitoring and drafting tools ran from free to about $120 a month. Tools that post for you add a fee per comment or post. Our own price is not published yet, so we make no claim about it.

### Can an agency post from its own Reddit accounts?

Some say they do. Reddit's User Agreement says you may not license, sell or transfer an account without Reddit's prior written approval, so ask the agency how its model fits that clause, and whether the history the work builds stays with you or with them.

### Do I still need to disclose if an agency or an agent writes the reply?

Yes. The FTC's guidance says a connection readers would not expect belongs in the post itself, not only on a profile page. Who writes the text does not change that. The business running the campaign decides the wording, within the platform's rules and the law.
